Active & Passive Remote sensing of atmospheric aerosols
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
Approaches of combining lidar and sun photometer data have been undertaken recently. A combination of spectral resolved optical depth measured with sun photometer and backscatter coefficients measured with a lidar system can be used to explore the possibility of deriving important particle variables such as volume and surface-area concentration, effective radius, and single-scattering albedo.

Modeling & Simulation of Physics Problems and Phenomena
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
Simulation of the Physics problems and phenomena is a complementary study that provides information on which basis experimental ranges can be reduced to a minimum, and can also offer data for parameters that can't be measured during experiments such as COMSOL simulation for temperatures when a material is laser irradiated, but not limited to that. In addition, the study of atmospheric processes requires modelling and extrapolation of data points for forecasting and interpretation purposes. In this regard, LOA-SL uses Python and MatLab, as well as other proprietary software for each instrument.

Magnetic based nano-structures obtained by Pulse Laser Deposition
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
Ferrite films are attractive materials for practical applications such as magnetic recording media, magnetic sensors, and microwave devices, due to their high permeability, high resistivity, and high Curie temperatures. In addition, cobalt ferrites are used in composite materials due to their magnetostrictive properties. Spinel ferrites have shown interesting dielectric properties in their nanocrystalline form compared with the micrometer sized grains. The pulsed laser deposition (PLD) is one of the most promising deposition techniques, mainly due to its flexibility in using a wide range of deposition parameters making possible to synthesize a large variety of thin films of complex chemical composition.

Research Equipment
Laser ablation and PLD. Space-time resolved electrical and optical emission spectroscopy
CATALOG NAME:
DESCRIPTION:
Because the lasers provide the ability to accurately deliver large amounts of energy into confined regions over a short time scale, the fundamental aspects of the ablation phenomenon has increased attention in the last years because of novel applications and the technological impact. There is therefore great interest in understanding the fundamental processes of LIBS in order to analyzing their technical and analytical capacities. A thorough study of this complex phenomenon seems necessary in terms of products ejected specific response has different by parameters (energy / pulse, wavelength etc.). A combined analysis of changes induced on the solid sample by laser irradiation and the properties and dynamics of the ejected gas phase provide valuable information for a more complete view of the phenomena of ablation and material behavior technology has great potential under intense photon excitation. Regarding the aspect of fundamental analysis, the current members of the project team have acquired significant experience in the LIBS technology applied in space systems satellite technology and LIDAR instruments based on the space-time resolved optical emissions RAMAN Spectroscopy. The main activities include: ICCD monitoring of the global dynamics of the plasma plume, velocities determination of the structures that form the generated plasma; Time and space resolved optical emission spectroscopy: element identification, determination of the velocities of the generated species, plasma contamination effect under the wall irradiation, resolved space-time excitation temperature and electron density profiles; Electrical characterization of the plasma plume: plasma potential measurements with emissive probes heated by a focused infrared laser beam; Develop a theoretical model to describe the implicated processes in plasma generation and expansion.

ELASTIC LIDAR SYSTEM
CATALOG NAME:
DESCRIPTION:
This lidar system described in previous papers (Cazacu et al., 2012; Timofte et al., 2011; Tudose et al., 2011), was developed in the framework of ROmanian LIdar NETwork (ROLINET) and RADO (Romanian Atmospheric Research 3D Observatory) research projects. The main features are: the transmitter is a Nd:YAG laser used for generating laser pulses at 532 nm with 100 µJ per pulse. The pulse repetition rate is variable up to 30 Hz. The laser beam are emitted and expanded 5 times before being transmitted into the atmosphere. The initial divergence of the 6 mm laser beam diameter of 0,75 mrad is thus improved 5 times by using a beam expander (BE) resulting thus a single beam of 30 mm diameter and a final low divergence of 0,15 mrad. This lidar system includes one elastic channel at 532 nm and one Raman channel (607 nm), with a spatial resolution of 3.75 m and a temporal resolution: 1 min – 5 min. Other characteristics are: measurement range: 12 – 14 km during daytime, 15 – 17 km during night time, full overlap: 500 m, partial overlap: 200 m].
