INDUSTRIAL INFORMATICS SYSTEMS (SHIVA)
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
This group conducts research and develops activities related to: systems analysis, modeling, design, simulation, development and testing control applications on different industrial processes and laboratory platforms focusing on energy field as: Modeling and simulation of industrial processes; Control systems design, optimization, development and testing; Simulation of related activities at various levels of process control, supervising and monitoring using specialized languages with applications in control, command and protection of industrial processes; Automation and protection in power systems and power plants; Electric and Electronic Motor Drives; Fault detection and diagnosis in industrial processes; System Engineering and Project management; System testing and quality assurance. The group develops control concepts for robust, fault-tolerant automated systems based on proven or experimental derived models. Simulation validates these concepts and their performance followed by implementation and monitoring of the system in real operating scenarios. We rely on the application of intelligent sensors, industrial communication, controllers and associated software within standards based development environments. Specific collaboration interests lay in the use of automatic control strategies for complex energy systems with the goal of attaining energy efficiency and environmental standards. Also we are looking at applying ICT to the smart grid by developing associated informatic tools for monitoring and control and integration in high level distributed structures. Potential partners would have a background in electrical engineering, power engineering, and computers or provide domain knowledge in the areas of application for such technologies. We are actively searching collaborations to deepen theoretical and applied knowledge, forming interdisciplinary research groups among the main areas of interest and industrial partners to jointly develop research products.
