The research team specialized in synthesis and characterization of chromogenic materials has a solid background in applied color science with a significant expertise in dyes and pigments technology. Besides chromogenic materials based on classical dyes and pigments and their applications, our current concerns are centred on functional dyes, including hybrid structures for stimulated color changing materials, luminophores, and colorants for manipulation of light and energy transfer with suitable ...

Assessment of color fastness performances on textiles
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
The performance of a dyed or printed textile when exposed to various agents during end-use is normally assessed by appropriate color fastness testing. The major types of color fastness test relate to the color fastness to: light, weathering, washing, rubbing, atmospheric contaminants, and organic solvents. The color fastness performance in standardized wash tests is rated by visual assessment of the change in color of the colored material and the degree of staining on to adjacent materials in the wash liquor (e.g. a multi-fiber fabric test strip, or specific adjacent fabrics), using ISO Grey Scales or using a spectrophotometer and the color difference converted into a Grey Scale rating. Color fastness to rubbing is assessed by rubbing a standard white fabric against the dyed sample under a constant pressure for an agreed number of strokes under wet or dry conditions. Assessment of the degree of staining on the white fabric is assessed using the ISO Grey Scale for staining. ISO 105-A01: Textiles — Tests for color fastness — Part A01: General principles of testing. ISO 105-A02: Textiles — Tests for color fastness — Part A02: Grey scale for assessing change in color. ISO 105-A03: Textiles -- Tests for color fastness -- Part A03: Grey scale for assessing staining ISO 105-A04:1989 Textiles -- Tests for color fastness -- Part A04: Method for the instrumental assessment of the degree of staining of adjacent fabrics ISO 105-A05: Textiles — Tests for color fastness — Part A05: Instrumental assessment of change in color for determination of grey scale rating. Assesment of photocatalytic activity by UV-vis spectrophotometry
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
Using artificial ultraviolet (UV) radiation, the photocatalytic activity of surfaces by degradation of the dye molecule methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solution, which is in contact with the potentially photocatalytically active surface, is determined, with the overall result being the decolourization of the solution. The high molar absorptivity of MB+ ensures a striking and easily measured colour change, from blue to colourless, upon photobleaching of the dye by the semiconductor photocatalyst under study. Typical test conditions are given below: Sample size: 26x76x1.2mm Suitable sample type-Surfaces covered with photocatalytic coatings Test conditions Abs0 (665 nm, 1 cm cell) = 0.74; pH 5.5; time: ≤ 3 hours; irradiance: 15 ± 0.05 W/cm2 Analytical method Methylene blue: UV-vis spectrophotometry Information returned: Degradation rate (mol/m2/h)

Optical equipment for measuring particle size and distribution by image analysis
CATALOG NAME:
M17 - LUZEX 450E
DESCRIPTION:
The equipment is especially useful for researches on preparation, stabilization, characterization and application of disperse systems. Qualitative or semi-quantitative information about particle size and shape can be determined, by numerically counting the amount of particles within predetermined size fractions. The microscope has lenses which will enlarge the particles images, enabling to individually determine sizes of particles of minimally 1 µm diameter. For the determination of the particle size distribution completely based on light microscopy, a large numbers of pictures containing a large number of particles must be processed in order to count the particles of interest without including artifacts. The system is equipped with an OPTIKA 3Mpx optical camera, and the images are processed with ProView software.

Laboratory Microwave Synthesizer
CATALOG NAME:
Discover 2.0
DESCRIPTION:
The Discover® 2.0 is the premier microwave reactor for performing any organic or inorganic synthetic chemistry. Featuring a best-in-class 300 mL single-mode microwave cavity and intuitive software with a 10" touchscreen interface, it is possible to program a reaction in seconds and achieve the best synthetic yield in minutes. For the first time, a single-mode microwave synthesizer reactor utilizing iWave, an intelligent IR sensor that can see through glass and Teflon and measures the temperature of your sample NOT the vessel! Based on new technology this powerful update eliminates the need for costly and fragile internal fiber-optic probes while providing the most accurate and responsive temperature measurement available. The Discover 2.0 patented pressure management technology is the latest advance in automated pressure control and the safest way to perform pressurized reactions. This system automatically relieves gaseous byproducts as they form during the reaction, venting safely through exhaust tubing at the back of the system. This significantly reduces vial failures and allows your reactions to reach higher temperatures while requiring only an easy-to-use snap on cap without the need for crimping tools. Discover 2.0 offers the widest range of high-temperature, high-pressure sealed reaction vessels, standard. Perform pressurized reactions in either 10, 35, or 100 mL vials. Alternatively, run non-pressurized, open vessel reactions in standard laboratory glassware up to a 125 mL round-bottom flask. If your chemistry etches glass (HF or strong inorganic bases), use a silicon carbide vessel or even disposable Teflon®liners to get the best results. The 5 megapixel camera included standard with the Discover 2.0 can be used to record still images or video footage of reactions. Any standard literature preparation can be automatically changed to a microwave reaction in only a few clicks.

Laboratory equipment for sonochemistry

Ultrasonic processor & atomizer
DESCRIPTION:
The VCX 750 is a powerful and versatile ultrasonic liquid processor. Using a variety of accessories, the system can process a wide range of sample types and volumes for many different applications. The VCX 750 is microprocessor based and programmable. Intuitive screens are user friendly and easy to navigate. The 750 watt power supply has the capability of operating our largest assortment of horns and accessories. A standard 1/2" diameter probe (50 – 250mL volumes) with replaceable tip is included with the system. Unlike conventional spray nozzles that rely on high velocity pressure to shear a fluid into small drops, the ultrasonic atomizer uses vibrational energy to generate a low velocity mist. Volumes can vary from microliters to liters, and atomize continuously or intermittently. The liquid travels through the probe and spreads out as a thin film on the atomizing surface. The ultrasonic vibrations are intensified by the probe and focused at the tip where the atomization takes place. The oscillating tip disintegrates the liquid into micro-droplets, and releases them to form a gentle, low velocity spray. Median droplet size is 50μm.
