Research Equipment
CAART Airborne component
CATALOG NAME:
DESCRIPTION:
CAART - Airborne component includes several aerial platforms (both manned and unmanned equipped with specific instrumentation for advanced atmospheric research): a. One Hawker Beechcraft King Air C90-GTx airborne platform, known also as Atmoslab, equipped with in situ instrumentation for cloud and aerosol microphysics and for land monitoring and topographic scanning applications. The scientific instrumentations includes Hawkeye - Combination Cloud Particle Probe (SPEC Inc.) and Cloud, Aerosol and Precipitation Spectrometer – CAPS (Droplet Measurement Technologies), aerial laser scanning system and a photo/thermal camera. A newly developed HSRL system will be integrated on this platform starting with autumn of 2023. b. Six Britten Norman Islander BN-2A 27 airborne platforms, of which 3 have been modernized and are operational, being explored for atmospheric science applications, traffic monitoring, etc. Currently, the integration of AESA synthetic aperture radar for SAR applications is on-going. The other 3 platforms are under modernization processes. The scientific instrumentations includes in situ gas analysers for trace gases monitoring (CO, CO2, CH4, H2CO, NO2, water vapours), remote sensing instruments (NO2, SO2, H2CO), nephelometer for aerosol properties, multi sensor optoelectronic turret, for aerial surveillance. c. several unmanned aerial systems equipped with customised sensors as payload.

CAART Ground-based component
CATALOG NAME:
DESCRIPTION:
CAART ground-based component is basically an experimental research base, used as support centre for aerial activities of CAART airborne component. It includes 7 research and technical laboratories, equipped with last generation instrumentation, and a hangar for airborne platforms accommodation. Scientific instrumentation includes: in situ equipment for aerosol and trace gases monitoring (CO, CO2, CH4, C2H6, H2O, H2CO, NO2, etc.), remote sensing equipment (ceilometer, radiometer). Due to its location (nearby Strejnicu Airfield), the base serves as main deployment point for most aerial operations that involve airborne platforms.
